Studené polievky a piknik na ihrisku, Cold soups and picnic on the playground

Piknik sme chystali v rámci Restaurant day, no počasie rozhodlo, že sa ho nezúčastníme. Mal byť predsa pre deti a nie pre prázdne ihrisko v daždi a v zime. Veď Restaurant day nám neutečie.
Termín sme posunuli o mesiac a oplatilo sa. Počasie bolo výborné, deti veľmi zlaté a čo nás tešilo, všetkým chutilo. Keď sa k nášmu stolu vracali mamičky, staré mamy a vraveli, že sme ich inšpirovali na letné varenie, bol to balzam na dušu. Ďakujeme vám všetkým za skvelý deň!

When we were kids, we could not object and choose which meals we enjoy and which we don’t. Whenever we wanted to complain about some food we did not particularly "love", my parents immediately argued with the statement that: You should love your mommy and eat anything she’ll give you. This sentence pops up in my mind whenever I hear kids say, ' Ugh, I don't want that, I don’t like it, I won’t eat it, Urgh! '' When Majka Bulková from the  "Message for the Mayor" organization  asked us to cook for children in the occasion of opening a new playground, both of us were thinking about that children's attitude towards food. Our concern was quickly replaced with  enthusiasm for new challenges. We began to study which meals children like to eat. Sonka was doing an opinion poll among children in tennis school and I borrowed my neighbor’s son for food-tasting. We were surprised that the kids started to like beetroot for example, and their tastes quite changed over the past few years.
We were planing to have a picnic during the "Restaurant day" event, however the weather decided that we would not. Picnic was supposed to be for children and not for an empty, cold and rainy playground. After all, we can always enjoy Restaurant day some other time.
We moved the date for the next month and it paid off. The weather was great, kids were adorable and we were most pleased with the fact that everybody enjoyed our cooking. When mothers and grandmothers were coming to our table telling us that we inspired them for summer cooking, it was a balm for the soul. Thank you all for a great day!

Čerešňová polievka / Cherry soup

Ingrediencie / Ingredients :
Čerešne 1kg na 1l vody / Cherries 1kg for 1l of water
Škorica / Cinnamon
Kryštálový cukor / Granulated sugar
Voda / Water
Soľ / Salt

Postup / Method :
Čerešne si vykôstkujeme, umyjeme, dáme do hrnca a zalejeme vodou. Pridáme škoricu a na miernom ohni varíme do zmäknutia. Voda musí iba jemne prebublávať. Keď sa nám čerešne uvaria, polovicu z nich vyberieme a dáme bokom. Druhú polovicu rozmixujeme na jemno s vodou, v ktorej sme ich varili. Podľa času a nálady môžeme rozmixovanú polievku prepasírovať. Do polievky pridáme cukor podľa chuti a sladkosti čerešní. Výsledná chuť má byť sladkokyslá a osviežujúca. Zriedime ju ešte so smotanou a odložené čerešne vrátime naspäť do hrnca. Dobre ju vychladíme a po dvoch hodinách v chladničke môžeme podávať.

Pit cherries, wash them, put them into the pot and pour water over them. Add cinnamon and cook over medium fire until soft. The water should only bubble slightly. When they are cooked, take half of them out and put them aside. Liquidize the other half with water, in which you cooked them. If you have enough time and you feel like it, you can sieve your mixed soup. Add sugar to it according to sweetness of cherries. The resulting flavor should be sweet and sour and refreshing as well. Thin it down with cream and put the other half of cherries, into the pot. Let the soup cool down and after two hours of chilling in the refrigerator, it’s ready to be served.

Hrášková polievka s bazalkou / Pea soup with Basil

Ingrediencie / Ingredients:
Hrášok / Peas
Bazalka / Basil
Šalotka / Shallots
Soľ / Salt
Olivový olej / Olive oil
Čierne korenie / Black pepper
Voda / Water

Postup / Method:
Na drobno nakrájanú šalotku orestujeme na malom množstve oleja do mäkka. Pridáme hrášok, kľudne aj mrazený. Zľahka premiešame so šalotkou asi minútu a zalejeme vodou. Na malom plameni pomaly varíme do zmäknutia. Vody pridáme toľko, aby bola hladina 1cm nad hráškom. Pomalým varom uvoľníme najviac chutí a nerozvaríme hrášok za pár minút. Polievku necháme vychladnúť a potom pridáme nasekanú bazalku. Na liter polievky dáme za hrsť bazalkových listov. Pridáme čierne korenie, soľ a polievku rozmixujeme. Možeme prepasírovať, dochutiť a dať zachladiť opäť aspoň na dve hodiny.

Chop shallots and sauté them using a small amount of oil until soft. Add peas. They can be frozen, it doesn’t matter. Lightly stir around shallots for about a minute, and pour water over them. Slowly cook on a low flame until soft. Add water so that the surface will be at least 1 cm above the peas.  By slow cooking we let out the most delicious tastes and prevent the peas from overcooking in few minutes.  Let the soup cool down and then add chopped basil. Add a handful of basil leaves per liter of soup. Add black pepper, salt and liquidize the soup. You can sieve it, season it and let it chill for at least two hours.
